The Spirituality of Wine; a conversation at Continuum Estate
with author Gisela H. Kreslinger and winegrower Tim Mondavi.
Monday June 20th, 5 pm
1683 Sage Canyon Road
St Helena, Ca. 94574
“Many experienced wine drinkers attest to wine having a spiritual dimension. Perhaps it is the beauty and complexity of this remarkable beverage, which lifts our hearts to a higher realm and helps us see beyond the mundane into a more profound vision of things. Even vintners refer to this spiritual element, not just in a finished wine but also in its creation: in the vineyard, the soil and the process of fermentation, where the flavors and aromas of wine are unleashed. It is marvelous how the complex interactions of sun, rain, soil, vines and the caring hand of the vintner can bring forth something so beautiful, complex and moving.”
Continuum Estate is honored to welcome Gisela H. Kreslinger, author, scholar and scion of a generations old wine family, to explore wine and its important role in western civilization, why it is a spiritual reality, and how it can enrich our lives. Kreslinger’s recent book, “The Spirituality of Wine” (Wm. B. Eerdmanns, 2016, $24.00) offers a fresh, holistic vision of wine, showing how it exemplifies the presence of spirit in all of life, presenting a ‘theology of joy and feasting that celebrates the human senses as gifts for tasting the goodness of God.’
Tim Mondavi, founder and proprietor of Continuum Estate in Napa Valley, will host this very special talk at his winery on Pritchard Hill, overlooking Oakville. Gisela will present a talk about her work, then lead a guided tasting of the 2013 Continuum, highlighting the inherent spirituality of wine. An interactive conversation will follow, focusing on wines remarkable qualities and how, when viewed through our own personal lens, wine can be seen as a metaphor for life’s journey.
Wine, bread and cheese will be served.
Suggested admission to the event is the purchase of “The Spirituality of Wine”,
available for sale at the winery Monday evening.
