The 2005 Continuum is a dense, beautifully harmonious, rich and aromatic wine with very expressive and generous flavors. It has a warm and enveloping entry, rich middle palate and long finish. Descriptors include rose petal, brown spice, sandalwood and cardamom, lingering with flavors of graphite and licorice on the finish. It shows a suppleness and generosity that makes it approachable now, with a firmness of supple tannins that promise a long and beautiful life.

2006 Continuum (Not for Purchase)

2006 was in many ways an ideal year for Continuum’s Cabernet family vineyards. After a stormy late winter season, spring brought mild winds, abundant sunshine and warm temperatures; ideal conditions for budbreak and bloom. Early season heat spikes were easily weathered. Labor Day’s typical heat wave failed to materialize; instead a cool, dry ripening season lasted all the way through early November, allowing us to bring in the grapes at optimal ripeness. The resulting wines are concentrated, full-bodied and perfectly ripe.

2010 has a deep red robe, black highlights and a vibrant purple rim. Primary aromas of black cherry, tar, dark rose petal and truffle develop greater nuance as the wine breathes, revealing peppercorn, blackberry, red ginger and cardamom. On the palate, ripe plum and wild cherry fruit align with silky tannins and a rich velvety texture. The finish is full yet supple, with flavors reminiscent of a freshly pulled double espresso. The 2010 is wonderfully savory offering ripe black fruits, a long finish and a complex set of textures and flavors.

2016 Continuum has heightened citrus blossom and rose petal aromatics, and builds in power and presence on the palate with cassis, dark fruits, bergamot, and dried wild herb with notes of cigar box and leather. Exquisitely balanced, 2016 is expansive and sinewy on the mid palate with a graphite and earthy minerality. The firm iron core of these volcanic soils causes the vines to struggle, producing fewer but more flavorful berries. That is expressed in 2016 Continuum’s vibrancy, many layers and assertive structure, all of which pay homage to its origin.

A testament in resiliency, 2017 Continuum bears the hallmarks of the elevation and terroir at Sage Mountain Vineyard, showcasing exquisite vibrancy, many layers of flavor, ferrous minerality and fragrant wild herb notes. The vintage shows freshness, hinting at rose petal on the nose and a brambleberry fruit profile on the palate. Cacao, black cherry and red plum give a plush, silky mid palate tying in seamlessly with fine tannins of crushed stone and subtle undertones of tapenade. 2019 Continuum is a singularly significant vintage marking the families of Tim and Marcia Mondavi’s 100th consecutive harvest in wine.

The 2019 Continuum vintage expression is an elevated and lush dance of power and grace. The highest percentage of Cabernet Franc to date, this wine shows a lively nose with lifted hibiscus and floral notes. The entry on the palate reveals a generous dark fruit expression, with youthful black mulberry, savory wild herb and a ferrous minerality. Exquisitely balanced, 2019 Continuum is deliciously approachable now, and will continue to evolve and improve through time.
